SAN DIEGO, CA — Today, in a partial victory for immigrant communities, the Supreme Court struck down the Trump Administration’s manner of eliminating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program because it failed to follow procedural requirements. The decision allows the estimated 40,000 DACA recipients in San Diego County and 700,000 in the United States to continue in their status, for now.
The court’s decision does not provide any permanent protection for Dreamers from the Trump administration. It also comes at a time when the administration is enabling police brutality in Black communities and entrenching systemic racism The administration is endangering lives, separating families, caging youth, and treating “others” as less-than, undermining our dignity and threatening our democracy.
