Check Out the 2018 SDIRC Award Winners!

On December 10th, The San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium (SDIRC), a project of Alliance San Diego, handed out their 2018 SDIRC Awards.

The SDIRC Awards celebrate work that uplifts SDIRC’s mission to support migrant families.

Eight community members, organizations, and partners were given awards for their outstanding work in 2018 surrounding immigrant rights, advocacy, media coverage, and more.

Congratulations to the 2018 recipients of the SDIRC Awards, listed below.

 

PUBLIC PARTNER: Student Healthcare Project, CSUSM School of Nursing, for their work surrounding the Student Healthcare Project, and their work providing healthcare to migrant families through the Safe Harbors Network.

OUTSTANDING COVERAGE OF IMMIGRANT ISSUES: Maya Srikrishnan (Voice of San Diego), for her coverage of North County and Senate Bill 54 through the region.

EXTERNAL COMMUNITY PARTNER: South Bay People Power, for their work advocating for the immigrant community.  South Bay People Power has fought to implement sanctuary state laws in Chula Vista and they have been a prominent voice against family separation.

ELECTED OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR: Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), for her work advocating for border communities in Congress.

WORKER JUSTICE: UNITE HERE Local 30, for their tireless work at the intersection of labor rights and immigrant rights.

LEGAL PARTNER: ABA Immigration Justice Project of San Diego, for their legal work, and their role in the formation of the Borderlands Get Free Bond Fund.

FAITH PARTNER: First Unitarian Universalist Church, for moving towards becoming a sanctuary congregation, the work they do with SOLACE and detention visitation, and for their informal work housing immigrants and asylum seekers. For their work on the bond fund, work with Otay Detention Center and help setting up a tour of Otay Detention Facility.

INTERNAL COMMUNITY PARTNER: San Diego LGBT Center, for hosting the Borderlands Get Free Fund Launch party!
