Robert's Story Exposes the Heartbreak of ICE Transfers: Here's What We Can Do to Create Change

Robert Vivar at his home in San Diego.

After growing up in Southern California and even securing legal permanent residency, Robert was still deported to Tijuana, leaving his family behind for nine long years. This traumatic experience began when Robert  was handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (widely known as ICE) by the local Sheriff's Department, resulting in double punishment for him and immense suffering for his loved ones, including his children and grandchildren

Cases like Robert's highlight the urgent need to stop the collusion between the San Diego County Sheriff and federal immigration agencies, including ICE and Border Patrol. When local law enforcement transfers our community members to ICE, it not only instills fear in immigrant neighborhoods but also damages the trust that is essential for everyone's safety.

Robert's story is a heartbreaking example of how our immigration system can tear families apart. Join us, Robert, and hundreds of others in urging the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to stop these harmful deportations and keep families together.

Robert shares more about his story in this short video.
