San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium Announces New Leadership

SAN DIEGO, CA – The San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium(SDIRC) has elected new leadership to its Advisory Board. Lilian Serrano was re-elected as the 2019 chair. She and the new 9-member advisory board will be tasked with leading the coalition for the next year.

SDIRC also unveiled its new branding and logo featuring a butterfly inspired by the “Migration is Beautiful” concept. Butterflies represent the fluid and peaceful migration of people and symbolize the dignity and resilience of immigrants to move freely in search of safety and progress in the face of danger, inequality and injustice.

For more than a decade, SDIRC has worked with lawmakers and community members to not only bridge the gap between them but to also advocate for legislation that protects immigrant and refugee communities.

Lilian Serrano, chair of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium and human rights organizer with Alianza Comunitaria, issued the following statement:

“I am thrilled to have been re-elected as chair of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium, and look forward to continuing the critical work of advocating and supporting immigrant and refugee families in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Now more than ever, the board is committed to embodying the spirit of our new logo by uplifting the stories of migrant and refugee families, advocating for their needs, and standing against harmful policies that seek to compromise the vibrance of our communities.”
